You can put into containers (locked) objects you haven't bought from research yet.

Simply research new tech, but don't buy it yet. And try to put it into container. Later on you can use your astronauts to install it somewhere.
I'm playing Moderate/Hard difficulty, so you need to unlock items after you researched them with money. KIS seems to ignore this rule.
