landing guidance results in a ship crashing into target at high speed

When I use Mechjeb's landing guidance it does a good job of getting me to the target. But it makes no attempt to make any braking maneuver at all, so it will get me there all right, just at about 7000m/s.

I don't know why it does this.

Landing guidance is useless at landing but really great for destroying target...

I got the same problem taiwanluthiers is describing. Great at targeting. but suddenly it says: "Braking, target speed: NaN".
And it stops the engine burn.... then it just splashes down at ~500m/s

Seems like something is going wrong in the calculation there.
hope this can be fixed, until then, no booster recovery for me :(

If more information is needed to fix this don't hesitate to ask.

P.S.: I use the latest version of mechjeb in 1.11.

Try putting an docking port opposite of the engine and clicking control from here. Sounds exactly like the issue, where its speeding up because it isn't realizing its thrusting in the wrong direction...

MechJeb's landing guidance does not do booster recovery well at all. It was written before SpaceX had ever hoverslammed a booster and was more written for airless planets.

If you're trying to hoverslam boosters you are better off learning kOS.

It is not a control direction problem because it did the boostback burn and entry burn correctly. just the landing burn is giving the "Not a Number error."

i have just tried a hop above land and it works fine tho, so maybe it is just the fact that i tried to land on a droneship???
i will keep troubleshooting. i also use a lot of mods so maybe something else is interfering.

And about mechjeb not doing well as booster recovery, it was (nearly) flawless in 1.10. So I'm quite sure this mod can do it... i hope it still can.

I have just had this same issue, however I can safely say it was not due to droneship landing - it happened while attempting to land on the Mun. Everything looks good up until the landing burn, and it just did not perform the burn and slammed into the ground.

you see i had that once and another time it just yeeted me away from the body

This is because you have control from here set on a part pointed away from your engines. Lets say your engines point south, if you control from a part that is also south it will assume the engines point north and yeet you into space.
