TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PLANET PASS MINMUS
BIGMOS opened this issue ยท 8 comments
When trying to plot a maneuver to get to any planet pass minmus, using transfer to other planet option while orbiting kerbal at 120k, it makes a node then the node says -158 days and for ever circles and never executes node .
It's waiting for the transfer window to make the transfer efficiently. Did you let it get all the way to the maneuver time? And did your craft still have electricity for maneuvering/control by the time it got there?
I've seen this frequently too, often MJ is only able to offer a close
approach, I suspect it may be down to the abilities of your craft design?

hi i did get to manuver window, and i had charge, but it fired but but in
orbit around sun. The other thing i forgot to mention is that when i picked
transfer to another plant, it only gave me closet approch not an encounter.
i tried to adjust my self and couldnt get it..โ

I have seen issues like this, but for me it was always due to inaccuracies when the ship goes 'on rails' and the orbit time changes. With the maneuver nodes based on time, any change in the orbit time effects the burn start time. After 100's of orbits, any small inaccuracy explodes and any maneuver is completely off the mark, regardless of the ship you are in.
if this sounds like the problem you are having, just manually speed up time until you are within a couple orbits of the maneuver and then set up the burn. Otherwise, we could all suggest to a the KSP developers to change their maneuver planner from being based on time alone (basing it on relative SOI degrees could be far more accurate after many orbits)
I understand what you are talking about but I onle ever see near approach
to Duna when I first make the maneuver node.
even if I stop a few orbits before and do it again I still only see a close
approch, if I edit with something like precise node editor I can sometimes
get within the SOI

oh if it helps I'm usually up at ~ 600 - 700 km orbit so I can do maximum
warp to the window...

It has nothing to do with the craft, it depends only on the planet you're transferring to. MechJeb's interplanetary transfers are ecliptic-plane transfers so they can't get all the way to an encounter when the destination has any significant inclination. You'll need to do a course correction along the way - "fine tune closest approach" or whatever it's called.
