I research the tech tree branch that gives you the MechJeb AR202 case. But when I visit the editor, it tells me I need to purchase it in R&D. The original AR202 case part is listed as owned, but a new duplicate case has been listed. Purchasing that and returning to the editor reveals the same problem, which repeats once before the parts stop duplicating and I still haven't got my MechJeb.

Seeing same issue. Ive researched Flight Control which from what Ive seen on various notes and help files is what you need for it in Career mode.

I had this issue in the very early days of the career path, there seems
another cost in the settings other than the tech cost from what I remember,
it could be causing a problem with your save... of course I now can't
remember what it was I did....

I finally figured this out :)

you have to buy parts in science window. Go to flight control and look for the mech jeb box. Click it, it will ask you to research it. Then youll have it.

If you see a number next to any science, you have items that need to be separately researched. This doesnt cost any science points.

Still seeing this problem in 0.23. Researching the MechJeb box does not give me the AR202 case for use in the editor. It still says that it needs to be purchased in R&D. In R&D, the original AR202 case part is listed as owned, but a new duplicate case has been listed. Purchasing that and returning to the editor reveals the same problem, which repeats. MechJeb never becomes available for use no matter how many times I purchase it in R&D.

If you see 2 case then you have an old version or something else installed. Clean your ksp/parts folder and make sure you don't have an old mj around

Just want to note that this was exactly my problem and the culprit was indeed an old MechJeb2_AR202 folder in "Parts".

Closing this as an old MechJeb issue. Many MechJeb issues have had little interest in years, have been fixed for years, do not include adequate replication steps, refer to old problems which are no longer applicable, or are difficult to determine what the problem is. This issue is being closed for one of those reasons. We apologize for any inconvenience, but keeping the TODO list tidy helps the developers.

If this bug/issue is still a problem, please open a new issue. For bugs please try to include a Minimal, Complete, Verifiable Example that explains all the steps required to replicate the issue. A link to the KSP.log file should be ideally included, but is often not sufficient information. Screenshots or short videos are often the best way to show a bug.
