Ascent Guidance - RCS enabled at x altitude

I use the Ascent Guidance widget the most out of all of mechjebs tools.. Great stuff. I really wish though I could define exact when/where in the ascent RCS turned on.

I don't always want it on, but sometimes I want it on just as we transition into "orbit" from "surface", or specifically at 40k..etc..

I just build my rockets around MJ.

Add a few control surfaces if the thing rolls while in atmosphere or a
few SAS modules for torque for everywhere else.

Just add them so that they get ditched with the rest.

I used to add staged RCS tanks and use RCS at launch too back when we
had to stage the fueltanks but after that got changed it was impossible
to define a tank to be prefered so the main tanks wouldn't be used at
launch so I worked around it differently.

But yeah, it would be interesting to have some small event editor that
could also do things like this during ascend. Like also unfolding solars
via an action group or so.

You lost me. I'm fairly new to KSP in that I didn't play prior to 0.23, so I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. The fuel duct allows you to stage so that your main tanks don't get drained first.

The way I build the rockets there are small control surfaces to take me through the atmosphere just as you suggest and they get kicked off before orbit. I don't want RCS turned on here as it's just a waste of monopropellant. Instead I'd like to be able to define exactly when to turn that on.

Now, one could argue that what I'm asking for is a more complex staging scripting system that is well beyond the scope of the Ascent tool..

Well if you need RCS past the atmosphere you may just need more torque
which can be added by the SAS modules, I think. I know there's a part
that adds torque but I'm unsure about the name.

And about the fuel ducts: before a certain update, 0.17 maybe, fuel
tanks needed to be staged too to be used.
Since RCS flows throughout the vessel to anywhere without fuellines that
allowed to stage RCS tanks that get dropped sooner and therefore save
others from being touched for later.

But that doesn't work anymore so that approach is out of the picture,
but it wasn't a good one to begin with.

Just leave your RCS off, and turn on RCS auto mode in the attitude controller. It'll turn it on if it needs it.

Ah.. I didnt realize that Aquilux good call. Though it would probably be trivial to give this same option then in the Ascent widget.. Just a thought.

Closing this as an old MechJeb issue. Many MechJeb issues have had little interest in years, have been fixed for years, do not include adequate replication steps, refer to old problems which are no longer applicable, or are difficult to determine what the problem is. This issue is being closed for one of those reasons. We apologize for any inconvenience, but keeping the TODO list tidy helps the developers.

If this bug/issue is still a problem, please open a new issue. For bugs please try to include a Minimal, Complete, Verifiable Example that explains all the steps required to replicate the issue. A link to the KSP.log file should be ideally included, but is often not sufficient information. Screenshots or short videos are often the best way to show a bug.
