Scan Planet Autopilot Maneuver

This is a suggestion, not sure how to select that label.

I was hoping to see an auto pilot that can let you set up 50+ maneuvers to orbit a planet at different inclinations. This is to support the Kethane mod and others that add resources to a planet but need to be scanned. Basically I want to get within xxx km of planet, set my orbit to 0* (planet's equator), then I raise it by 0.5* every time I circle it, or 1 degree even. This is for moons too. It was extremely unefficient when I did this manually myself. Didn't work so well.

It should let you set how much to increase the inclination by each orbit, how long before the next node you want to set the next node at (so I can set it just one second behind the next node), how many maneuvers it is allowed to do, what the max time warp speed is that you should allow, and the distance to maintain from the planet/moon.

EG, for me I would set it to
45-50KM distance
150 nodes
1 second before next node
0.5 degree inclination each cycle
time warp speed of 70x max
and this would be what I set for kerbin's second moon, Minmus.

As those are basically what I did manually for 3 hours though inefficiently and kept having to re-angle my solar arrays and other issues and blah blah. A special scan maneuver would make this process much easier in the long run for planet surveying.

Really too bad you can't have it automatically do these same maneuvers while you're flying another ship. xP But I guess I could go to sleep while it does all this. :P It's just a bit buggy with the next target location fidgeting all around.

Er, I just thought of an idea upon closing this. Is each planet's angle the same? If I do 89 degrees on each planet and moon, will I be able to scan the whole thing? If so, just close this. If each planet is different however, it would be nice to have a button in the maneuver planner to set your orientation to the perfect scan range of the planet. Be it 89.5 degrees or whatever else it might be.

This kind of calculator appears to be what you're looking for. It is still a bit buggy and under active development, though.

I agree with @VladRassokhin. Correctly entering a polar orbit should remove the need for any other maneuvers

Hi!
Usually you don't need change inclination many times to scan planet, just one.
Set inclination to 85 (approximately) and due to planet rotation, trajectory will cover almost all planet.
If you use ScanSAT, you will see trajectory and next 10 equator crossing points. They should not be syncronized: After each turn due to planet rotation, vessel will cross equator X grads differ than previous time. Ensure X and 360 are 'coprime integers'.

PS: Sorry for my english :)

Ah, I didn't know this. I shall try it and see how it works.
