The KSP 1.0.3 update (and the 1.0.4 hotfix) came with significant revisions to the stock reentry heating system, which now includes consideration for part skin and internal temperatures, amongst other things.

@Starwaster has once again stepped to the rescue with an updated patch for DRE compatibility, and so that will need to be tested.
