Forums user StevieC suggested adding an option for the heat shield to have a bottom hatch to allow Kerbals to traverse through the Avionic ring to compartments at the back, a la the Gemini-B/MOL setup.

After some consideration, this suggestion does not fit the original vision for the add-on.
