Overview
This aircraft can land on water and land. It was inspired by the real life Icon A5. The this Icon K5 has a capacity of two Kerbals and is equipped with Ballistic Parachutes, Wing Lights, Panel Lights, Strobe Lights, Beacon Lights, Nav Lights, and Landing Lights. This version of the aircraft uses BigNose Aviation Lights nod found here: (http://kerbal.curseforge.com/plugins/220300-aviation-lights).
If you want the stock version of the aircraft, you can find that here: (http://kerbal.curseforge.com/shareables/220438-icon-k5-stock).
The Icon K5 comes with an Icon Refueler which can be used to refuel the Icon K5. This Refueler can be transported to other locations if found how to do so.
The Icon K5 engine is limited to 10% in order to provide a more realistic experience. If your the type that enjoys fast Light Sport Aircraft (As unrealistic as that may be) you can easily change the thrust limiting of the engine, even in flight.
IMPORTANT NOTES!!!
1.) DO NOT let the tail fins impact the water. Touching down too hard will cause the aircraft to sink leading to a tail strike. Flaring too much on landing (more than 15 degrees) and rotating too quickly on takeoff can also lead to a tail strike. The Tail Fins have a very low impact tolerance, which means uncare for them will lead to the Icon K5 tail being destroyed, rendering the aircraft useless.
2.) The aircraft does not come with an equipped a controllable module, it only has two seats. This was to prevent the battery from being used up by the probe even when the aircraft was stationary and off. Make sure you at least have one Kerbal standing by the edge of the runway ready to hop on the Icon K5 as soon as it spawns.
3.) The real Icon A5 has a T shaped tail. My Icon K5 has a V shaped tail with the horizontal stabilator on the upper part of the Vertical Stabilizer. This was because the aircraft was causing issues with a T-tail. Since the engine is mounted to closely to the tail, it's thrust line was impacting the Tail causing the Tail to be pushed back with the same force as the aircraft moves forward. Newton's Third Law prevented the aircraft from moving. The only reason this works in real life is because the Icon A5 has a propeller not a jet engine, and physics is more complex in real life too.
SUMMARY
Have a Kerbal standing by who you can trust to take care of the Icon Tail when operating on the water.
How to Use
NOTE: Key Mappings are different than the STOCK version of this craft.
STARTUP:
Spawn another aircraft and have at least one Kerbal get out and run to the edge of the runway and wait. Next, spawn the Icon K5 on the runway and have the Kerbal run up to it and board any of the seats. The aircraft is now in your command.
PARACHUTE:
Keep SAS on when using parachute. Put Gear down for land touchdown and up for a water splash down. When in doubt put the gear down.
WATER OPERATIONS:
On Water Landings have a little bit of power to get a forward momentum just over the surface. Then go idle and flare as necessary to keep the aircraft of the water until you reach 10 degrees nose pitch up. As long as speed is below 80 m/s you should be ok. Let the aircraft settle onto the water. Turn SAS off and watch the aircraft coast to a stop.
On Water Takeoffs, Turn SAS on and advance to full throttle. Watch the speed increase and when it hits 30 m/s, smoothly pull back. First establish 10 degrees nose pitch up then when the aircraft lifts off the water, smoothly pull back to 12-15 degrees to quickly climb away from water.
COMMAND ACTIONS
[U] General Light Switch - Turns on all the necessary lights for night ops. This includes on this model the Landing Light, Nav Light, Beacon Light, Strobe Lights, and Panel Lights.
[G] Gear - Extend and Retracts Landing Gear
[T] SAS - Activate/Deactivates the Incline Reaction Wheel
[Backspace] - Activates Emergency Ballistic Parachutes
[1] Engine Toggle - Turns the engine on and off
[0] Landing Lights - Turns the Landing Lights on and off
[9] Position Lights - Turns the Navigation lights on and off
[8] Rotating Beacon Light - Turns the Beacon Light on and off
[7] Strobe Lights - Turns the strobe lights on and off
[6] Panel Lights - Turns the Panel Lights on and off inside the cockpit
[5] Wing Lights - Turns the wings on and off for convenience. (They are amber but if you want you can change them to another color.)
Installation
Place the craft file into the SPH folder in the save file you which to use it. Kerbal Space Program => saves => [save name] => Ships => SPH
