If you power the block underneath the piston it will expand but the effects of the Better Piston plugin won't take place.

For example if you place a crush piston as in screen 1 it will work correctly. But if you power the block beneath the piston (as in screen 2) the piston will still expand but the block will not be crushed.

Have you got indirect redstone turned on in the config?

Yes, indirect redstone is turned on.

Could be due to that block being there, bukkit redstone events aren't called for blocks sending redstone to other blocks, which could be the issue
