Bug report: "Nothing nearby to protect"

I am getting the "Nothing nearby to protect" when placing signs adjacent to protectable entities or blocks.

Using build: no18 (Jun 21, 2014) Deadbolt-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar on Spigot.

I don't think the issue is caused by conflicting plugins, so I am out of ideas.
