Can you try use telnet to get the text output so I can see where the error is. I suspect it's special characters in the motd.

telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 25500
Once connected type:

GET /?password=changemenow539 HTTP/1.1
<Enter Key>

That way I can see the xml response in plain text.

Thanks for reporting! Yep it's what I thought. Ill release a fix for this issue in the next version. Its due to the colored message of the day for servers.
