Irrational fell-from-high-place death

I'm not sure this is a MB issue, but let me start here, since the damage causes MB death.
Scenario:
- gamemode creative
- fly up to escape trees
- minecraft:tp to a known location
- move downslope to level ground
- gamemode survival
- die from fall damage
PLAYER did not actually fall from anywhere. Death does not occur if I teleport in survival mode, which does not engage flying prior to teleportation. The "moved to quickly" message is from vanilla MC, but this is a warning. Any ideas?

This has nothing to do with MH I allways write [MobHunting] infront of my messages...
