Nether portals are broken no portal is created
ezebtron opened this issue · 138 comments
whenever i make a nether portal on my second world and go through it no portal is created on the other side in my second world's nether. I just spawn in mid air and fall to my death or spawn in the terrain no portal is made. Because of this i entered in creative mode to make one to see if they would link and they did not even though i made it right next to where i was spawning in the nether it just sent me to a random far off place in the overworld
Anyone having luck with these issues? In addition to the nether portal creation issues people are staying here I'm thinking it may be more than just mvnp, we have a resource world I reset once a week and on creation it generated a spawn at 0,127,0 dropping me 64 blocks into thankfully an ocean ^_^ not as big a deal as the nether portals cause I can just reset spawn but I have my players on alert before going into any portal cause they're more likely than not going to end up in a wall or the air.
Have recreated these issues on the two most recent dev builds.
I have same problem, but I'm using Multiworld instead of Multiverse. (CB 1.4.7 R1.0 2624 Recommened)
I am still having this issue. I am using the following:
CraftBukkit version git-Bukkit-1.4.7-R1.0-b2624jnks (MC: 1.4.7) (Implementing API version 1.4.7-R1.0)
Multiverse-Core Version: 2.5-b656 (I have also tried 2.5-b641, but that was reported broken)
Multiverse-NetherPortals Version: 2.5-b654 (I have also tried 2.5_issue68 from above)
I am not using MVNP to link my secondary worlds as they are named "world" and "world_nether". When I enter the nether with a new portal, even in a new spot in the Overworld, a portal is not created for me in the Nether. When I create a portal in the Nether from where I am placed through the portal from Overworld, coming back through does not put me in the portal which sent me to the Nether. No other portals exist within 128 blocks of this Portal. A new portal is created in the Overworld when I come back from the Nether. My Nether world is using the default "8.0" scale, Multiverse-Core has defaultportalsearch "false" and portalsearchradius "16". I have also tried portalsearchradius with "128", but no change.
I have completely deleted my nether world, destroyed the portal in my Overworld, created a new _nether using mv create <world>_nether nether
, ignited my portal in the Overworld, and still have this issue. I also tried creating two new worlds (mv create test normal
and mv create test_nether nether
) with the same results (no return portal to the Overworld created when I use the portal in the Overworld to reach the nether).
Plugins enabled: Plugins (11): TuxTwoLib 1.4.7-b2, MultiInv 3.2.5, Multiverse-Core, PermissionsEx 1.19.5, LastLog 1.1.1, WorldPos 3.4, Permissions, Essentials 2.10.1, Multiverse-NetherPortals, EssentialsChat, ChatManager
Looks as if this isn't going to be fixed in 1.5: https://bukkit.atlassian.net/browse/BUKKIT-3601
Plugins now need to create their own TravelAgents and act on them in that regard.
Confirmed happening on my server in the latest:
1.5.1 dev build #2693
NetherPortals #660
Core #665
Works for main world, not for custom worlds.
Well, the nether seems to be fixed for me, but I still get spawned inside blocks when I want to go to the end :(
You're the first to report a working nether portal system Firedroide. Can we see your version info? Also, you are talking about non-default nether travel correct?
Just my two cents: When I upgraded to CraftBukkit for 1.5, I also deleted my two nether worlds & re-created them using Multiverse. After that process, nether portals are linking up as normal again.
Boy i hope that isn't the solution as we have a well established alternate nether world that has been broken by that issue. Having to nuke it would be awful.
I'm not sure exactly why that worked. It might be worth reimporting worlds into MV Core, but I don't know yet. I'm afraid to test further, because I don't want to break what's working now.
What ever the case may be, I'm simply using this as a crutch. It's clear that @fernferret & the rest of the Multiverse Team don't give a shit about nether portals. To call it in a state of abandonment would be too kind - it hasn't seen any fixes or any remote development for a two month old issue. There has been no active development since a pull request was accepted - that's it.
I hear ya. I've been trying to fight off that nagging feeling that this just may end up being the way it is. :( I really really don't want to have to vet another multi-world solution
@nicatronTg that does not work. Even after recreation portals don't link.
Any solutions?
@nick4fake all I know is that it's magically working on my server and I'm not touching configuration or anything else to keep it that way. Sorry.
I tried with last versions and I'm having the same "falling" ussue.
MV - Core: #665
MV - Portals: #684
MV - NetherPortals: #660
@MarioG1 CB version/mv plugin versions? New world? Imported? Multiple groups?
Idk why but the netherportal's are working on my server now :)
Bukkit: #2717
MV - Core: #665
MV - Portals: #684
MV - NetherPortals: #660
I changed nothing portals suddenly get linked correct. The only problem is that entities aren't teleported on custom maps.
Anyone else see this?
@digitalink2008 I saw that yesterday, however Maven was failing mid build because http://mcstats.org/ wasn't responding with some dependencies. I tried again today and I was able to build the .jar file, later tonight I'll throw it onto my test server to see if it fixes anything. I'll report back with results!
That PR looks promising. I just wanted to update on my situation: it broke at some point this week with no changes.
@jrmorrill you can just post a link to a har jere - until the PR gets accepted, only people who manually compile can get it. Once the MV team gets it, presumably they'll post a download on BukkitDev themselves.
@digitallink2008 @nicatronTg
The nether portals seem to be working without any issues with this PR. I have a .jar if anyone is interested. I don't know the proper procedure for updating stuff here or on Bukkit dev. I could post the .jar to my drop box or something if anyone else wants to test.
Are entities (mobs, minecarts, items) also teleportet?
If yes please post the drop box link here :)
@MarioG1 I'm not sure, I didn't test out other entities yet. Below is the jar if you want to test yourself or perhaps someone else will test it out before I get a chance to.
@nicatronTg OK, it's posted below : )
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73174507/Multiverse-NetherPortals-2.5.jar
@jrmorrill tested the Jar and the error persist. got a new error with pasing the TP info to multiCore. gonna test again with a dev build of Core
update: Nope
Portaling to the end still ignores scaling and goes to whatever coords you were at in the overworld also. I've had it with MV, it's a shame this is happening.
Yea i think its time to go looking for another multiworld handler. If anyone comes up with any good ones I'd love to know what you find.
It's not even [completely] multiverses fault, it's bukkit breaking things that work fine and everyone looking at each other saying "someone should fix that"
The source of all our problems Bukkit/CraftBukkit@de86f8c742547
According to that, we just need to enable using the travel agent on world
change, so we've got some kind of conflict here.

Wait so bukkit made a change and didnt have the forsight to allow a mod to work around it or with it?
Thats not sarcasum i really am surprised
Okay guys, just got back from vacation and I was determined to figure out just what the heck was going on with this issue. I haven't had a chance to read through all the comments but I was already aware of a problem since some specific changes occurred in craftbukkit. Tonight I was able to pinpoint exactly when these issues started occurring and open a ticket on leaky for it. If there are any issues that we have introduced I'm not going to attempt to fix them until things begin working normally without our plugins.
If you're having trouble with nether portals being created please vote on this ticket: https://bukkit.atlassian.net/browse/BUKKIT-3944
That ticket has been resolved as invalid - so not much to vote on.

Quite a lot of people are riding on this. It's really disappointing to see
such an obvious feature tossed by the wayside time and time again.

I got it fixed with last builds, but I had to activate the searh portal no
radius on the Multiverse-Core config. Whithout it it creates the portal
some blocks far away where it appears. With a search radius of 16 blocks it
goes without problems :).

I think i need a little clarification to test with hear. Can you tell us
what builds you used? It sounds to me like you have it working with the
override portal search turned on and at a max of 16 blocks for searching?
If so I guess that's something but its still not a full default world
simulation.

End portals don't work for me even though the nether portals are working just fine.
Still broken. My experience:
Create a portal in 'world'. Go through it. Creates a portal in 'world_nether' in a relatively safe area. Go back through the same portal and a new portal is created thousands of blocks away from the first 'world' portal.
Create a portal in world 'islandworld'. Go through it and appear somewhere randomly in 'islandworld_nether'. Possibly in a mountain of nether and start suffocating. No actual portal nearby. Switch on Creative Mode to stop dying. Clear out a space. Create a new portal to go back to 'islandworld'. Go through new portal and come out in 'islandworld' in a random location within about a 20 block radius of the original portal.
Several months later and no fix in sight. Sounds about right.

I think the main reason a fix isn't in the making is because the issue is so temperamental. My server is running fine from all my tests I get sent to portals that have been created rather than above or below them and get sent to back to portals in the overworld again where other people are still having issues with them.
The issue is not temperamental. There are a discrete set of conditions
that cause the issue. They have not been fully analyzed, but here are some
possibilities:
- The issue doesn't affect the 'primary' world, i.e. the one new players
end up in. For instance, I have a tiny world with a handful of Sign
Portals to go to several worlds. The tiny world does not have the issue,
but all of the other worlds do. - The issue doesn't happen if by miracle of chance there is ground at
exactly the right coordinates (after dividing by 8). But only if the
nether portal on the other side was created before the bug happened or was
created manually.
There may be more, these are just two conditions I'm aware of.

And I have the issue with none of my worlds.
All my secondary worlds have portals being created by MV and are linking correctly. There weren't for a time but everything is running fine now as far as I am aware.
Thats the only reason I was saying the issue was temperamental.
Maybe you didn't read my post above but it details how this is broken even in my primary world.
And I think the point of MV Nether Portals is to work in MV worlds??
Not working on my primary or secondary worlds right now, for the record.

George is exactly right. If you read all of our early testing its only an issue in secondary worlds. All primary world functions work.

Yes. I've got 3 worlds: world, nether, end (exactly like that).
If I go from world to nether (with, ofcourse, a nether portal), they are created, under the 128 limit.
Back also works.

I finally have my Bukkit server up again, so I'll give this a try(#71) this weekend and see if I can maybe close what has got to be the longest issue I've ever seen.
Sorry for the delay / lack of response / goneness.
❤️ FF
Since there's bee a ton of discussion on this topic, I'm going to post what I did, and ask several of you @digitalink2008 @WauloK @ezebtron to weigh in and say that this sounds like the the issue and the solution.
I've compiled PR #71 and thrown it on my test server, and here were the results:
This is what I did.
- Create a fresh server
- Compiled pull request #71
- Downloaded latest Core build(667)
- Opped myself
op fernferret
from the command line - Set my gamemode to creative (not that I didn't want to play a fresh server up to a diamond pick for this test):
gamemode 1
- Create 2 new worlds with the following commands (so they're non-default)
/mvc world2 normal
/mvc world2_n nether
- Link the worlds (since I created them with non-standard names that won't auto-link) with the following command:
/mvnp link nether world2 world2_n
/mvnp link nether world2_n world2
(Don't forget this one, otherwise they won't work going back)
- Verify links with the
/mvnp show
command (visual inspection) - Getting down to business: Created nether portal in world2 by placing blocks in creative mode and lighting (decided to specify all details)
- Stepped in the portal at
-157, 63, 76
, arrived at the nether in a newly created portal at-24, 63, 16
in world2_n - Used
/mvi
to verify that I was actually in world2_n - Stepped back through that portal, arrived in world2 at my first portal
- Flew to

, created another portal here, went through, arrived at the same nether portal, which seems reasonable to me, given the 128 block search radius (if that's still how they work)
So, if the issue was that portals weren't being created in secondary worlds, it seems that this PR #71 resolves it
Let me know if this sounds right, if so I'll get 'er pulled.

Gave it 2.5.1b as the build numbers so as to not anger Jenkins.

EDIT: For those of you who don't trust just a jar file (I don't blame ya) feel free to build it yourself by cloning the repo specified in the PR followed promptly by a mvn
.
Having the same issue on the latest RB and dev builds of Bukkit. It appears to be a bug in TravelAgent, from what I can glean from the irc channel.
Unfortunately, downgrading bukkit and MV doesn't appear to re-link the portals.
@flodiebold In theory, it shouldn't affect anything adversely, since we have an overridden travel agent
I think this is caused by Bukkit/CraftBukkit@de86f8c742547, which makes useTravelAgent default to false for custom worlds. Doing
event.useTravelAgent(true);
in the PlayerPortal handler seems to fix it (but I have no idea if there are any unintended implications from that).
This happens since the fist 1.4.7 dev build of bukkit. You span at the "correct" location in the nether (coordinates in the normal worls * scaling faktor) but no portals are created or linked if there is a valid portal. This bug only occours on custom world, on the main world porals are linked/crated normal.
I agree with you.
Through some trial and error I've found that if the nether is custom generated or altered in any way it will not work.
I think it has something to do with the fact that the actual nether (not the portal) is not being linked to the corresponding overworld. If minecraft/bukkit generates them (overworld and nether) at the same time the portals link, and if you import them correctly without altering the world files at all or move/copy them into a new folder the nether portals will link, most of the time but not always.
Whenever they(overworld and nether) are created separately they will not work at all.
Just tested with Bukkit version 1.4.7-R1.1 (Build #02630); Nether portals are still broken. Mine dumps users directly into lava, it's pretty cool.
Tried these things, but they make no difference:
- Unlinking the portal. The portal still works and behaves exactly the same. ?
- Re-linking the portal. No change.
- Changing defaultportalsearch to 'true' in Multiverse-Core/config.yml. Also no change.
building a new server and ran into this bug.
Multiverse-Core version 2.5-b655
This server is running CraftBukkit version git-Bukkit-1.4.7-R1.0-b2624jnks (MC: 1.4.7) (Implementing API version 1.4.7-R1.0)
Multiverse-NetherPortals version 2.5-b652
If anyone wants to try the fix:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/71355/Multiverse-NetherPortals-2.5_issue68.jar
@main-- @dumptruckman either of you have a chance to test/pull this? I can try and come out of hiding to have a go but probably not till this weekend.
first round of testing done and portal in nether sill dose not spawn nor do portals link that are already created
Hey so we noticed something like this happening on our server which we think is related. Basically (as far as we noticed) going through (already existing) portals have players teleport to scaled coords (but not the nearest portal)
Here's a video we recorded:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9TEM7IrI34 - Coordinates for reference:
from: x -270 y 70 z -1022 (world)
to: x -33.5 y 70 z -127.5 (nether)
from: x -33 y 35 z -126 (nether)
to: x -265 y 73 z -1013 (world)
Plugin versions:
[Multiverse-Core] [Multiverse-Core] Multiverse-Core Version: 2.5-b655
[Multiverse-NetherPortals] Multiverse-NetherPortals Version: 2.5-b652
[Multiverse-SignPortals] Multiverse-SignPortals Version: 2.5-b644 (issue 68 fix)
(Also this is probably why issue #69 happens too, just portal being built above y128)
(And this is the video we recorded of the/a bug before testing this version)
yes thats whats happening on my main server and test server even when new portals are created i have also tested with brand new worlds and nethers the world/nether created by bukkit work fine the problem only happens when a new world/nether are created or imported by MV
then you probably aren't using the 2.5 beta... http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/multiverse-core/files/24-2-5-b641-beta/
updated to 2.5 beta and modified config.yml still dose not link to portal and now get error in console

@ezebtron Oh right, that build was broken by CB... fixed in the latest dev build: http://ci.onarandombox.com/job/Multiverse-Core/655/
Okay so, I've heard that the code in that PR is the possible fix for this, whether or not it is, i'm unsure. But it won't hurt anything so why not. Feildmaster told me that there was nothing I could do besides tracking everything manually (not gonna happen) besides waiting for him to push the changes into CB where he reverts the code that broke this to begin with.
@t2t2 I'm fairly sure the reason you're not being taken to your portal is due to the default setting we have in our beta build that sets the portal search radius to 16 (where the default use to be 128.) You can correct this by changing the portalsearchradius value in the multiverse config.yml to 128. As far as it not creating a new portal, hopefully the code I added fixes that. If it doesn't all we can do is wait for CraftBukkit to fix it.
Using core-654 and with the MVNP build above from @Peter200lx that implements event.useTravelAgent(true), Nether portals are linking and spawning properly. Assumedly it will work with core-655 as well. Try to make a normal portal in a new spot in a broken pair of worlds and things will work properly. The end, however still has issues with not sending people to the end spawn, instead using absolute coords at a 1:1 scale from whatever the linked overworld is.
I will try making a fresh world and see If it works

@latexink, are you using the default portal link option or the new option that allows you to set the link search distance? Or does that even exist in the build you are running?
I'm on 654 for no specific reason (only 2 versions from latest) and:
defaultportalsearch: 'false'
portalsearchradius: '128' (or whatever you want for a radius.. 128 is default)
Quick question, is it possible that the problem isn't in MVNP but in the core? I ask because as i was building my new server I created 3 separate worlds to run in tandem with the default worlds generated via the server settings.
mvworld
mvworld_nether
mvworld_the_end
The reason I loaded up MVNP was because mvworld nether portals would not send the player to mvworld_nether. I thought that the default minecraft behavior applied in that the current world name would have _nether appended to it and the player would telleport even if MVNP was not in use.
On my main server I have used MVNP as long as MV-core so my recollection there might be off.
Just a thought, but I have not taken time to read the necessary code either.
I'm using the build 655 of core and the fix 2.5_issue68 and still having no luck. The defaultportalsearch: is set 'false' and i have set the radius to 128 with no luck in it working yet. I spawn in air above lava where there is a portal about 40 blocks away where it is safe to spawn (Portal was created previously and linked to another portal in the world).
