When you change a field's settings/flags in the main config, the new settings aren't added/modified in already placed fields of that type. Generally this is beneficial, but in a case of fixing a mistake in say a protection field, everyone using them has to replace the block to get the updated field settings. My suggestion is a command/way to update all already placed fields of the specified type with the current config settings. Of course, this would be an admin command.
