Hold a Slimefun item which you have not yet researched.
Right click a chest which is in a Towny-claimed area which you are not a part of
The chest opens

The chest protected by Towny should not open when right clicking with a LOCKED Slimefun item, like when you right click it with no item or an unlocked Slimefun item.

PS: I tried with a variety of items, but the one I remember was an Explosive Bow so try that
Well, that's something you should have included in the original report.
But now you've at least learned something for the next time you try to make a bug report.
Thanks though.
There won't be a "next time", it's not worth a petty argument over an item in a game about cubes
Anyway, have you managed to replicate it? Can't be that hard, 2 people have already had it in vastly different environments

I haven't even tried to replicate this, it's a sunday too...
Besides, there are other - arguably more important - bug reports to focus on, such as the duplication bug #2636.
I am also generally not the one who replicates bugs, often not even the one fixing them.
Right now I am just triaging these tickets and reviewing pull requests. There are lots of people on this project, so I try to get people to make bug reports that everyone can easily understand and reproduce.
You didn't specify which item. You need to be a bit more precise than this.

Literally any Slimefun item which you haven't yet unlocked
Please state the exact items you used.
I somehow doubt that you "literally" tried over 500 items.
If you expect this to be fixed, then you should be clear about your statements and cooperate.

There aren't any specific items that cause this, it's just any that you don't have unlocked.
We've had players using items from all different sections exploiting this.

Still, you should always name the exact and precise scenario in which a bug like that occurrs.
This isn't about being picky, it's just that this imprecision or laziness can make bug-fixing (which is already like finding a needle in a haystack) proportionally harder.
The entire reason behind a bug report is to provide instructions on how to reproduce it so that it can be back-tracked to the cause of the issue.
The more effort you two put into making a proper bug report, the faster a bug can be fixed.
Otherwise it'll stay being the aforementioned needle in the haystack and result in a lot of "back and forfth"-messaging.
So that's why I recommend you to clear things up before anyone attempts to look into this.
Also, there's no adequate justification for why it would happen with every single item, unless every single item was tested.
So jumping to this conclusion without proper justification, might be more harmful than being truthful about which items were tested.
Even if there is just one single item for which this bug doesn't apply... there'll always be the possibility of us trying out this exact item and labelling this off as "cannot reproduce" or "works fine for me".
That's why the steps to reproduce bugs should always be as precise as possible, to eliminate any room for errors.
So all in all, being truthful and providing as much information as possible, is in your best interest.
...or just get on a test server with towny, give yourself a random item you haven't researched and try it....

I looked into it and was able to reproduce the issue.
I've also contacted the developer(s) of Towny and the issue might actually be on Towny's side here, so they are investigating it too.
Just letting you know about it, as it may or may not be fixed in an upcoming build of Towny.
Awesome! Thanks @LlmDl
