Is there any way to stop the effect settings from resetting every time I log out? It's very annoying to have to turn off all of the effects whenever I relog.

If you don't want the effects enabled on join, you shouldn't grant the permission nodes that enable them to yourself. The effects, like nearly all features of the plugin, are disabled for all users by default.
