You were probably in creative mode when you gave yourself the discs, right? Creative mode deletes items you pick up after your inventory is full, so if you switch to survival first it won't delete your music discs. Giving the discs in shulker boxes is an interesting solution but might be difficult to implement.

It is also possible to give yourself discs one-by-one with the command: /function infinite_music_discs_dp:give_<internal name>. But this requires you to know the disc's internal name, and may be inconvenient for giving yourself so many music discs.
