I'm not sure if this is on the side of the ESD or Storage Drawers. The issue is that the ESD will delete coal and charcoal if it is used to export into a compacting drawer.

Tested in: Actually Additions: The Mod: The Modpack
Pack Version: 1.1.9
Minecraft Version: 1.12.2

Repo Steps:
1: Place down a Compacting Drawer
2: Place down an ESD outputting into the Compacting Drawer
3: Insert a piece of coal or charcoal into the Compacting Drawer
4: Insert a piece of coal or charcoal into the ESD

Expected Result: Coal/Charcoal exports from ESD and adds to the Compacting Drawer

Actual Result: Compacting Drawer clears

However, it does work if you add a controller and a regular drawer, but only if you manually add a piece of coal to the compacting drawer first.

Repo Steps:
1: Place down a Storage Drawer Controller
2: Place down a Compacting Drawer adjacent to the Storage Drawer Controller
3: Place down a Basic Drawer next to the Compacting Drawer
4: Place down an ESD adjacent to the Storage Drawer Controller with it outputting into the controller
5: Insert a piece of coal or charcoal in the Compacting Drawer
6: Insert a piece of coal or charcoal into the ESD

Expected Result: Coal/Charcoal exports from ESD and adds to the Compacting Drawer

Actual Result: Coal/Charcoal exports from ESD and adds to the Compacting Drawer
