with a wall of crates, it is hard to remember what goes where.

I tried using an anvil to name the crate, but the one probe did not show
the name after the crate was placed and picking up the crate lost the naming also.

Could crates be name-able?

I also thought it would be cool if a short name (4-8 chars) could be burnt into crate using
some kind of hot iron.

maybe you could rename a cold iron on an anvil.
cook the cold iron in the furnace to make it a hot iron
sneak right click it on the crate to label / brand it
right click the hot iron in water to make it cold again

just a thought.....
