Somehow bind the crafting page to the config option, so that it's obvious when the recipe is actually disabled via the config.
Then, when the page is opened (before isn't possible because of how MineTweaker works) try to see if the recipe exists. If it doesn't, display some sort of notification that it got changed but also display all of the possible other recipes to optain the item (via just getting all of them from the Registry.) in the rotation mode.
