Chemical combiner completely unusable, cannot select recipe

Using the following mod version: alchemistry-1.20.1-2.3.3.jar as part of the All The Mods 9 package.
When I attempt to select the recipe after hitting the "Open Recipe Selection" button, none of the provided recipes can be selected.
Understood. I attempted to select the recipe with the lock button showing in both locked and unlocked states.
In one case, I attempted to use JEI to create Grass from cellulose, and when I hit the "move" button in JEI to populate the recipe, it moved over the cellulose but it selected the incorrect recipe (dead branch or something). At that point I was forced to destroy the combiner since the incorrect recipe could not be removed. Additionally the combiner was fully charged but it burned all of its charge attempting to make the single item and it never did complete.
note that recipes cannot be selected if you have already locked the recipe from my knowledge
likewise having the same behavior.
my player was trying to switch from making acacia saplings to dark oak, and when he unlocked the recipe and tried selecting any other item in the combiner GUI's catalogue, it would not select. I came over to verify-- likewise, I paused the machine, unlocked it, tried changing recipes to no avail. broke combiner and replaced it, and still no fix.

UPDATE: updated to V 2.0.33 Alchemistry, along with its dependencies to latest versions. the issue persists.
