[1.18.2] Gusts (not Gusters) don't despawn properly in uninhabited loaded chunks

Hi!
I am running MC 1.18.2, Forge 40.1.84, Alex's Mobs 1.18.6
Today we were having severe lag issues on my multiplayer server, which I eventually identified by typing /forge entity list
and seeing 270,000 alexsmobs:gust entities. Doing a kill command on them cleared up the lag. Within a minute, 900 more had spawned.
I went to my sibling's farm, which was the main location for the lag, and found that as soon as I arrived, fewer gusts were present, and they were despawning correctly. Their base was loaded using the Chunk Loaders mod, so I believe that this was allowing the Gustmakers to spawn gusts, but wasn't resulting in them despawning as usual when they hit an object/expire. I think a player must be present for them to despawn, perhaps?
Anyway, for now we will just make sure that the Gustmakers are turned off when my sib leaves the server, but any help would be appreciated! Thanks for your time!
