refer to the youtube video I uploaded as it better explains the problem
there should be a way to limit or stop them from breeding. this slimeball farm is too efficient the crows can't keep up. I started with only 3 pupfish and within 30 minutes it got to this stage. they produced over a stack of slimeballs every minute and I don't even know how many pupfish each minute. maybe I suggest making it so they can only reproduce in light levels 0 and 1? because this will lag my game if I don't consistently slay them.

I also think they should be more generous when giving xp as well

I have the same problem. The light-level idea sounds good. Or give them a larger cooldown for reproduction and slime balls. Would it maybe be possible with a villager type system where there can only be X pupfish for every Y moss blocks in their tank?

Also seeing isMaxGroupSizeReached is always returning false here could this be the root of the problem?

For a quick fix you cloud set breedNextChase a higher random number as 3 maybe?
