When ever a player is grabbed by a giant squid, their camera and maybe position changes erratically, seeming to flicker between different positions each frame, making it impossible to hit the squid with melee attacks, yet somehow easier to hit it with ranged attacks. I don't know if this is caused my a mod conflict, but the modpack it occurs in is this one:
