Most sounds from mobs are too loud, can be heard from too far away, play the same regardless of distance and if the sound is long, if you get far away (like even 100 blocks away with /tp) you can still hear it.
Also, i think most if not all sounds are monoaural (not stereophonic), which makes them annoying and even louder.
