Blobfish turn to pink form when in underwater caves

Despite being technically deep underwater, blobfish will turn to their low pressure form when swimming under overhangs underwater. I guess this is because they have a non-water block in the water above them. Looking for air in particular could make them stay grey closer to the surface than they're supposed to, but since they appear to try to stay away from the surface anyway, I think it'd lead to less "weird" switching?
