The auto crafting station does not return items that are required for but not supposed to be consumed by the recipe it is crafting. Examples: recipes that require a bucket of water or lava will not return the empty bucket, Harvestcraft foods that require some kind of kitchen utensil (cutting board, mixing bowl, etc.) will consume that item along with the actual ingredients.
