Close and Lock this if you want.
I did some troubleshooting earlier to end up here to learn that Universal remote was the issue causing me so much grief. However I noticed if you are in water, you can see as if the black screen is no longer there. Now, I could look into making a fork of the mod, but I am not all to familiar in java.
If anyone has any advice and where to start let me know. It seems something simple, or watervision glasses.
