Cows won't drink from automated trough

I'm pumping water into a trough - I've tried both extra utils transfer nodes/pipe and cyclic's fluid cable. The trough fills with water just fine, but my fresian cows never drink - they always show as Thirsty.
When I remove the pipes and fill the trough with a water bucket, they drink.
Expected Behavior
Cows will drink water from trough
Actual Behavior
Cows never drink, show as thirsty.
Steps to Reproduce
Automate trough.
Version of Minecraft, version of Animania, Single Player or Server
mc 1.12.2. animania-1.12.2-1.7.3 - server.
