In-World waypoint display

Like the feature Journeymap has.
It displays a beacon beam and a floating point with the waypoint name in the actual world.
This would be handy to have for AntiqueAtlas and would allow me to drop any other maps I am using right now.
This certainly sounds very convenient, but also slightly over-powered and out of sync with the old book aesthetic. Though I could always add a setting to disable it for authenticity.
Maybe having the actual waypoint icon floating in the air where the waypoint actually is would make it less overpowered? I just really like having stuff in my HUD to be there at a glance. :)
At least some sort of way to find my way to a marker would be great. In-world is good. So would showing the direction of markers on the overlay. To me, this is the one big downside to using this mod for mapping. I'd love to at minimum be able to select a marker and get some on-screen indication of the direction it is in.
I thought about this some more and I think some kind of ingame compass that shows you the direction of the waypoints on a bar would keep the book aesthetic but still give you some means of navigation.
Like in this picture but with the waypoint symbols (and preferably names when you look towards them) instead of the directions.
Why not use the existing minecraft compass logic and the location it points at? Maybe an "own" compass item which points to a selected marker of the map.
For me the flair about this addon is especially the non-hud stuff. The "immersion" you could say...
