I can't load into a world with apotheosis and JEI, due to an error involving the gem socketing recipe breaking.

Weird, I haven't seen this error pop up in any other instances. I can add a guard to have the error be silenced, but you have another issue if this is causing you to be unable to join worlds. JEI errors like this one are non-fatal, and will not cause world join to fail.
