Describe the feature
Described in title.
And of course this feature will not work with blocks that are using the same texture for every sides and also don't have orientation-related block state. (So Wood blocks are not ones of them)
Reasons why it should be considered
For example, I can use Quartz Pillar's side texture for Facades facing up, with different orientation (axis=x or axis=z) as well.
