Rituals do not allow any block other than air on their altar, unlike every other structure. This is pretty annoying in snow biome, and for this same reason, no torches are allowed to remove the said snow.

Sparks from illumination powder or illumination wands arem't disruptive and prevent snow as well, as does a glass roof.
