I tried to use the Formation Wand from Astral Sorcerery 1.8.5 in SevTech 3.0.6 with wooden logs.

While I was expecting to be able to get horizontal logs when targetting the sides of blocks, instead all wooden blocks were placed in a vertical orientation, even for horizontal beams. I also tried placing a horizontal log in the world and shift clicking it to set orientation, which also did not work.

Once again, the scenario was building a finished ceiling, with beams.
