Heart amulet kills players

So in my pack i have it set so players start with 8 mc hearts (4 full hearts) when players have the amulet equiped and they take more then 4 hearts of damage when they remove the amulet they instantly "fall out of the world" and die. Hearts seem to be deducting from the players base hearts first and then the amulet hearts this should be reversed in my opinion as players will not realize they need to heal before they take the amulet off. This instance of instantly dying has happened to all of the players on my MP server for the pack.
