After an internal conflict with forge, many people are abandoning it in favor of more convenient (as they say) neoforge and fabric.
If you look at the numbers for curseforge, for 1.21.1, which I play on, there are 1294 projects found for forge, and 3640 projects for neoforge.
Starting with 1.20.2, forge and neoforge are incompatible.
