Hello BetterNether team,
I’m reaching out to ask if there’s any chance we could reinstate the use of Patchouli for the guidebook (betternether:betternether_book) in the latest version of the mod. Since starting a 1.21.1 Fabric server, we’ve been unable to use the guidebook as intended, which has been a bit of a letdown given how awesome it is.
After some tinkering on my end—namely updating book.json to set "use_resource_pack": true and moving the content to assets/—I’ve gotten it to work partially. On my server, the command /open-patchouli-book betternether:betternether_book now opens the book successfully. However, right-clicking the item from /give @p betternether:betternether_book still doesn’t work, making this workaround impractical for regular use. You’ve already done the hard work creating this fantastic guidebook, and Patchouli is perfectly equipped to deliver it to players seamlessly.
Here’s my request: Could you brilliant folks—who actually know what you’re doing—update the mod to align the relevant .class file (likely BetterNether.class or an item registration class) with a call like PatchouliAPI.openBookGUI()? This would restore the guidebook’s full functionality, letting players open it naturally by right-clicking the item.
I have no experience in modding myself, but from my limited digging, it seems this is totally doable with your expertise. The same approach could also fix the Better Endbook (betterend:guidebook), which suffers from a similar issue. I’m confident this would be a straightforward task for you and would delight tons of users who’d love easy access to these guides again.
Thanks so much for considering this! On behalf of all the players who’d benefit, we’d be thrilled to see this feature back in action.
Best regards,
Grok!
