[Bug] Better Nether biomes don't generate properly when world is reloaded(modpack specific bug)

What happened?

If a world is created, left, another world is entered(may not be necessary? Restarting Minecraft works too.) and left, and the recently created world is reentered, no new Better Nether biomes properly generate and the world generation is similar to the nether wastes of vanilla Minecraft. This corruption is permanent. I think this is a config issue which could be resolved by editing the config of the modpack, I have no idea how to properly do this though, and neither does the modpack's creator it seems. I didn't exactly submit the best bug report though... I got really confused often. The original bug report can be found here: itsdinkd/AQM2/issues/66

Sorry! I think I forgot to add a title and realized I had forgotten to do so after I filed a similar bug report on BYG's github. I then inadvertently overwrote your title, sorry...

Also, github didn't like it being a .dat file so I put it into a .zip file to make it feel better.

Don't worry about the title. It is recognizable now, and that is all that matters :)

As far as I can see, the world is using the BiomeSources from BYG. BiomeSources are responsible for selecting which Biome is generated at a given point in the world.

When you load your world, do you see a message from BCLib (or the Guardian) that offers to fix this world? Was this fix applied to the world you sent me the level.dat? If not could you please apply the fix and send the repaired level.dat.

If BYG is resetting our BiomeSource, there is not much we can currently do. :(

I've made 53 test worlds under various conditions. If the entire config folder is deleted, BCLib offers to fix the world but everything seems to work fine regardless of whether the fix is applied. With the default config of the modpack, BCLib never says anything, suggesting that some option in its config has been selected so that those offers to fix things never appear. I'm not sure having BCLib fix the world every time it's loaded is a good solution as I'd assume the time it takes to do so increases linearly with world size. In all my test, I think every time BCLib offered to fix the world and was allowed to do so, everything was fine. I think these fixes were necessary for each reload though, but I could double check. I could try re-enabling BCLib's world fixing stuff though and see what that does. I could also look into that BiomeSources stuff. That's a good lead.

Well, there is a problem with BiomeSource handling in 1.18.2 that is not easily fixable.

Normally BCLib will detect that a Datapack or another Mod has changed the BiomeSource. That is why the repair Screen shows up. When you repair the world (btw. that kind of repair only touches the BiomeSource and should not take longer for bigger worlds) BCLib is setting up it's own BiomeSources again.

Unfortunately, BYG will (after our repair) overwrite that BiomeSource. So the repair is reverted. That is probably why the Mod-pack did disable the Biome-Repairs (either fixEndBiomeSource, fixNetherBiomeSource in bclib/generator.json or just applyPatches/repairBiomesOnLoad in bclib/main.json)

Since our BiomeSources are not loaded, there is not much we can do o solve the issue. I am not sure if BYG can be configured to not override the BiomeSources. As I said above, the changes to BCLib needed to fix the timing issue are quite extensive, and 1.18.2 currently has a low priority.

Could you please post config/byg/nether-biomes.json5. In 1.19 this file is responsible for the big End Biome-Source configuration. Not sure if it was already available in 1.18.2.

This file lets you manually configure which Biomes are added to the BYG nether BiomeSource, I have attached an example (from BYG for 1.19) that includes all BetterNether, Vanilla and BYG-Biomes. If that works and the Mod-Pack contains other Nether biomes, you'd need to expand the list...

The BYG config the modpack uses already includes Better Nether biomes. The first time the world is loaded, both Better Nether and BYG biomes generate. The next times, only BYG biomes properly generate. I think this is probably a bug on BYG's side as it seems to control the world gen and it somehow messes up on reloads. I set "forceBYGNetherBiomeSource": false for a new test world last night and Better Nether biomes generated perfectly fine. BYG nether biomes didn't generate at all though. Not too much of a loss IMO, as I feel Better Nether biomes are a lot better than BYG's nether biomes. It does have some good nether biomes though, and disabling BYG's nether biomes probably isn't an ideal solution for the modpack. I do think I saw some stuff that could be enabled in BCLib's config which could allow it to detect BYG's nether biomes and add them to it's biome source. That way, we might be able to get both to stably generate. Planning on running tests regarding that today. Also, the Better End biome generation also seems messed up with most biome blocks not generating. I did manage to find a cave biome which properly generated though somehow, so at least it works better than the nether is. I'll try similar fixes there once the nether is fixed.

When you disable the big biome source, you can also manually add the by biomes to our nether biomes source.

Just add the to config/bclib/biomes.json into the force_include.nether_biomes list. For example for two of the big biomes it would look like this:

Oh, and for the end the same is true. BYG will at it's end BiomeSource and replace ours. You should be able to test the same approach as with the Nether (disabling BYG and manually adding their Biomes to the force_include.end_land_biomes (or force_include.end_void_biomes if it is something like a floating island)

EDIT: Well I guess the config I'm using is slightly different as I've removed all BYG end biomes and some BYG nether biomes because I liked them far less than the BetterX biomes. The BYG nether biomes I still let generate are ["byg:weeping_mire","byg:embur_bog","byg:quartz_desert","byg:crimson_gardens","byg:sythian_torrids","byg:wailing_garth"]. Hope that helps.
