BP currently searches for preferred spots in a 129x256x129 box (64 radius) whereas vanilla only uses a 33x256x33 box (16 radius). This ticket requests there to be an option to use the vanilla box for preferred spot searching (maybe even make it the default).

Existing frame searching should be left unaffected.
With CC, keep the 64 vertical radius and only reduce the horizontal one.

Actually, I think even I would stick to the current mechanics. However, had this option been there, I would

1. be aware that in addition to the rendering, this mod changes a hidden and often relied upon mechanic (and had an explanation about how it works now), and
2. thus see the new mechanic as an improvement with a way to opt out, and not as "WTF, my portals are all placed wrong, nobody told me about it, and I don't even know how it works now! I want the familiar mechanics back!".

Regarding the defaults, I don't know which is better. On one hand, having the portals behave as they did before is a good thing: less unexpected change in familiar mechanics, and you can even disable the mod and have your portals still working (unless you did something too complicated). On the other hand, as long as there is an explanation and a way out, why not have the portals be "better" by default?..
