Reactors take only one type of fuel at a time?

I've got a rather large reactor setup (Actively cooled) and have been feeding it both Yellorium and Blutonium via two input valves. I've been taking the Cyanite and reprocessing it into Blutonium successfully.
Up until today, it has been eating up the Yellorium first and not touching the Blutonium. I just figured that it picked a particular fuel by some random positioning of the fuel feeding block and went with it, or, the software looks to see if Yellorium is available before Blutonium. Today, however, I decided I wanted to get Steves Factory Manager setup so that it'd feed Blutonium only, then when it has run out, feed one ingot at a time of Yellorium until a Blutonium was available.
Unfortunately I found out that it seems that the reactor will only take one or the other type of fuel but not both at the same time. So if the reactor was primed with Yellorium, it will NOT touch the Blutonium until every mb of Yellorium is flushed from the system. Doing this will eventually kill my entire power infrastructure, including my AE system.
I removed all Yellorium ingots from the system, checked via the control panel that the system had no fuel other than a few mb being worked on, then put in Blutonium into the system but it would just not take it. I pulled out the Blutonium and put in Yellorium and the reactor took it without issue.
Is this a bug or is this working as intended? Shouldn't the fuel rods accomodate both types of fuel?

Ahh.. There is a patch. Going to upgrade and check. (Should have checked the release notes before posting -- My bad)
