Bobby breaks my game

setting the render distance to 64 in the config causes all mobs in the world to freeze and become unresponsive. also i cant break any blocks.
More context: Max Render Distance AND Singleplayer server distance are both set to 64. All other settings are default.
Minecraft version 1.20.1
I have the Simply Optimized modpack installed (i dont play without it) the only other mod installed is mod menu.
using OpenJDK 17
