JEI Symbol on Fruit producing trees

I am just lost and there is no better way to find out - already inquired with JEI producers.

How to reproduce
I honestly just want some sort of explanation of what this symbol even means and as the comments are off for community interaction on the Curseforge and wikis seem to be not for this version, i honestly don't know where else to go. I just want to know how the hell you use the mod to get fruits. Older wikis mentioned Beehives...no idea how that integrates with this version.
You don't get Green Apples if you use a silk touch tool.
Not sure why there is a colored gradient behind the icon.
I'll try to make this clearer somehow.
I figured out why there was a gradient in there. It was debug code.
I think the symbol starts making sense once you hover over e.g. the leaves: It shows that you need shears or silk touch.
You can't get apples when you shear leaves though.
