Upstream issue, but reporting here for now.
All slabs recipes are registered alongside a reverse recipe which allows two slabs to recombine into the original block. However this interferes with the crafting of the brick and chiseled brick variants of many of the blocks, as crafting 2 of brick slabs together yields the brick block, instead of the chiseled brick block.

This applies for 1.8 stones and metamorphic stones
