well, marking a 2D plane of like 10x10 (100 blocks) takes a pretty long time. Doing that on a 3D plane is almost senseless.

So i thought that maybe there could be a block like the BC Marker Torch.
You place 2-4 (corners) of them, set the point of origin, mark each of these marker-blocks, and the whole space between them gets that loki-marking.
then you remove your origin point as usual and you can use the whole pattern.
Marking a 10x10x10 would not need 1001 clicks anymore, instead it would only need 6 (if im not mistaken)

a more complex idea could have overlapping too, so building a 10x10 inside a 20x20 would produce a 20x20 with a 10x10 hole in it.

This would make the ring of loki even more usefull, turn it into an even better tool for building and mining
