I've been playing around with moving mana via minecart for a little while now, and I found that being able to orient mana pumps so that they transfer mana vertically would be of use in some situations. So instead of having to transfer mana from a pool two blocks away from the cart horizontally, you could transfer mana from a pool two blocks above the cart, but not below, as the pump would have to be placed directly under a rail.
