I think that the gaia apple is trash without refilling full saturation, and it only goes to 1 bar of saturation.
Why? Because it's a LEGENDARY item, you can make it more powerful. Otherwise, I just use a healing axe. And that goes to full saturation, though a little slowly.

I use a mod that shows how much saturation we have by the way.
