Using version 4.0.2, Pipes and engines wont connect no matter which pipe or engine. Not a render problem because items it is connected to say they have no power comeing in.

Connect how? What are you trying to do?

I mean that engines won't power pipes. It happens with every engine, and every pipe. I cant place them any way other than the way in the screenshot, and putting pipes on top doesn't work either.

Golden pipes do not require engine power. Only wooden pipes do. Wooden item pipes require an engine to extract items from chests and wooden kinesis pipes for power. Your setup does not really do anything.
