Natural gas

Hi.
I had an idea. When you pump up oil there is a chance you also get natural gas as a biproduct. This gas can be trapped and stored in gas tanks through special gas pipes. Or, it will burn. It will either burn directly out of the miner which is dangerous, or you can put some gas pipes up in the air to burn it there. If you choose to save the gas, refining it should be necessary to use it as energy.
There's currently no work scheduled on that one. Discussion is carrying on http://mod-buildcraft.com/forums/index.php?topic=67.0. Closing for now.
sounds good but a question: this is normaly for issues only, i have posted an sugestion of my own on the developing section of the buildcraft forum but wouldn't it be easyer if we make a section there or something here just for sugesting stuff and discussing it?
XD Yeah. But then it should generate above the oil well.
By the way SpmodAPI adds gas (Animal Gas) Its a bioversion of Gas
I woulod like that too, would make pumping Oil more realistic! :)
In fact, you could use normal fluidpipes and give the Gas the "fluid.gas" Superclass
mayby with some kind of collector blocks, some kind of upside down hoppers to collect the gas
I think fireDude's concerned about people having to create a new pipeline for the gas, though it would be a nice idea if it would just escape if you don't capture the gas with pipes.
One thing I am concerned about with this is, where would the gas go? It would require people to create a completely new pipe system just for this new resource.
I KNOW, I KNOW! The gas that you pump out of oil deposites should be a mixture of lots of other things, and then there should be a centrefuge that'll separate the flameable gas and any other gases from it. (flameable gas is the fuel one)
As a suggestion on other gases:
NEON! ARGON! They should be crafteable into NEON STICKS! Which will glow when 10 mj/minute are provided. I have an idea or two on how to render fancy neon effects, so'll maybe give it a try some time later.
Propane furnaces.
Also steam engines.
I know Stirling engines use coal to simulate steam production and power
it. But wouldn't it be neat if the gas mod was integrated with it in some
way? Just a thought.

Question is: What to use Gas for?
Suggestions:
- Use it in a "Gas-fired Engine" to produce power
- Make it destillable to refine it(Same deals as with Oil but split into more Components [Methan(80-99%), Ethan, Propan, Butan (all distributed in the rest of the 20-1%)])
- refined Gasses could have higher burn values
Downsides of Natural gas should be:
- Standing in the Gas will cause (dependant on duration of breathing Gas in)Nausia and drowning, if breathed in too long also Poison and Hunger (These are the Real-life effeckts when breathing in Natural Gas)
- Natural Gas is highly explosive! Make it cause an explosion if a Gastank, or a Gas Source gets close to Fire or gets struck by lightning.
Storage Question:
- There should be a special tank for the Gas wich needs to be high-pressure proof. (Gasses like Methan Propan and Butan are stored as LG's (Liquified Gas) under quite high pressures.)
This would be my suggestions
@Bitterholz Fuel. Or Gas Traps or something. Or prossesing for chemical things.
Environmental Hazard
Gives player nausea that stacks over time and wither effect (since its
lethal)
Piped Gas lighting? light with flint & steel, right click to turn off.

.
Additionally there should be pressure proof pipes to transport the Liquified Gasses cause normal pipes could not resist the Pressure needed to keep them as a Liquid
At least not the Stone ones
Anyone willing to join me in an actual Project wich Handles this Idea in Code-Form?
@Bitterholz my Mod add gas and they do not require special pipes because it does not get compressed. When you compress Gas (Strong enough) then it turn back into liquid. Also the pipes are good enough for that.
xD than make a compatiblity to my mod that will get some kind of gases and acids. XD will take a few.
XD. speiger.jimdo.com. API changes soon. Update is at the moment in progress (My Hemp Update)
This is a discussion area for the issue, not a place to fucking talk about random things
Still, no need to go off-topic about addons that include natural gas already when we're talking about whether or not this should be included in default BC...
I kind of like finalsilver's environmental hazard idea. If it could be (easily) implemented, that would be cool :)
I'm sorry but could you take this conversation somewhere else? I don't believe github issues is suitable for something like this.
Decided to read through a few more of the replies in-depth. Some feedback for bitterholz:
@Bitterholz, I support the gas-fired engine (otherwise what would it be used for), but adding anything else ("gastank") just for one "block" seem to be a bit of a stretch for default BC. Explosions-When fire/etc. reaches it sure, but it exploding just from fire going near it seems a bit undesirable. In general, I don't think a "pressure" system implemented specifically for gas should exist because, again, it's kinda overthinking it for one addition (but if mrkol's suggestions are also implemented, .then it makes more sense).
psxlover, if you mean the general issue itself, there is a FeedbackRequired
tag attached to it.
Unrelated: Github just derped terrifically and screwed up all the times on the comments (they were appearing in the future Q_Q).
I agree with @psxlover. I'm personally curious about that idea, and the challenge, although still need to figure out what are the distinct benefits that this brings to the player other than another source of energy.
I created http://www.mod-buildcraft.com/forums/topic/natural-gas/ for that. Generally speaking, I resurrected http://www.mod-buildcraft.com/forums/forum/feature-ideas/ which is again the right place to discuss features.
