There seems to be rotation problems - probably just missing world support in BuildCraft blocks.

I find this to be a great idea, trully worth pursuing, but what comes to mind is: Archimedes's ships makes all blocks into entities. How would BC keep track of moving items / fluids inside pipes if a player by mistake (or not) activates the ship (making all blocks invalid), not to mention quaries and its frames and pums and their "hoses". Maybe add in some method to "freeze" the state of pipes could be implemented to conserve their states during movement (which items / fluids are moving on what (relative) direction), leaving only the problem of quary frames and pumps. Hope this gets implemented. It would be quite interesting to have a movable oil rig.

I wonder why there would be any buildcraft blocks on a ship.

Since buildcraft... would probably only build the ship.

Players build moving Oil Rigs. Moving Quarries. etc.
